According to Wikipedia, Deborah Harry, lead singer for the new wave band Blondie, which played last night at the Crossroads KC at Grinders, turned 64 this past July 1. Damnit, Wikipedia, where are your manners? If this is correct, and I have a feeling it is -- the great and powerful AllMusic.com backs it up -- then Harry was 30, or close to it, when she and guitarist Chris Stein founded their band in 1975.
Can you imagine a 30-year-old female American musician doing this today and having anywhere near the kind of success Harry did? I needn't go on about contemporary society's obsession with splaying out and dissecting youth and beauty, paparrazi-blog commenters taking apart female celebrities on computer screens like fetal pigs. And when Harry began, first as a Playboy Club cocktailing "Bunny" who played in bands, she came on fully sexual -- even more so with Blondie. Just watch the video for "Denis." Gee willakers!
Times have changed, and last night at the Crossroads, fans came more for nostalgia than for lust. And they were greeted by a classy, bouncy dame and her backing band, who, if not as nimble as they were 30 years ago, were still rarin' to have a good time.

San Jose was — most definitely. From the moment the group opened its show with the title track to "21st Century Breakdown," to the encores that came nearly three hours later, audience members acted like they were watching the world's greatest rock 'n' roll band.

And who's to argue with them?

In May, "Breakdown" debuted atop the charts in 14 countries. The album's lead single, "Know Your Enemy," hit No. 1 on both Billboard's alternative and rock charts. And there was the news that Berkeley Repertory Theatre Company will produce a stage adaptation of the band's 2004 multiplatinum rock opera, "American Idiot." The musical begins previews on Sept. 4.

And, oh yeah, there's the blockbuster concert drawing capacity crowds across the country.

It all adds up to one thing: 2009 is the year of Green Day.

Kings of Leon is an alternative rock band from Nashville, Tennessee formed in 1999 by the brothers Caleb Followill, Jared Followill and Nathan Followill with their cousin Matthew Followill. 10 Things Your Ticket Broker Won't Tell You at SmartMoney.com. As stated this is a good article but it does have the following problems or half truths:

Over all this was a good article but it was not 100% true either, but in my 20 years of being a ticket broker I have never seen one that did tell the truth 100%. Why is this? It is simple the Artist, Promoters, Teams and their Owners, Venues and Theaters do not want the truth known.
The 1st untruth with this article is that not admitting giants like Ticketmaster and Live Nation and Tickets.com are generally the box offices for most venues. It is true that a handful of venues like the Toyota Center in Houston and the Wachovia Center do operate their own box offices but they also have their own ticketing system and generally do not sell their tickets thru Ticketmaster either.
2nd The primary market prices will catch up with the secondary market. This will never happen as long as there is a limited supply of tickets. There is no way that a 13,000 seat venue in a a city with 3, 5, 7 million people will every be able to sell enough tickets to catch up with the demand. Case in point is the recent Garth Brooks Concerts in Kansas City. Brooks played 7-8 a concerts to try and easy the demand on the ticket supply and to keep his ticket from selling on the secondary market. Did he succeed? No! Their were still fans that were unable to get tickets before they sold out and there is always fans willing to spend more money for a better seat then they can get from Ticketmaster or the box offices. As for The Super Bowl example, this is unfair example considering that the NFL only sells a about 2,000 tickets a year to the general public.
3rd the biggest problem with this article in my view is that it is made to sound like the majority of tickets are being resold on the secondary market and that ticket broker cause these events to sell out and keeps fans from getting tickets. Nothing could be further from the truth for the biggest and hottest events there maybe a total of 5-7% of the tickets being resold on the secondary market. Many of these are being resold by fans who only need 2 or 4 tickets but bought the maximum tickets allowed. They sell these tickets through online ticket brokers, Stubhub, eBay, and Craiglist.. Also if you visited 20 different ticket brokers web sites and show 300 tickets for a given event on each web site it doesn’t mean that their all 6,000 tickets for sell by brokers. What the media will not tell you is that you are seeing the same 300 tickets on sale on 20 different sites. Online Ticket Brokers share their inventory and sell each other tickets.

There are several ways to get tickets to see your favorite artist or band in concert when they visit your area or even in a city across the country. Some ways include the old fashion way of standing in line at the box office, but some of the best ways are on the internet.

The first step is finding out when and where the event will take place. To find information on upcoming concerts there are several great sources on the internet such as pollstar.com, livedaily.com and citysearch.com. Also many bands, theatres and venues have websites where you can subscribe to a mail list that will keep you up to date. The major box office websites such as Ticketmaster and Tickets.com are so have list you may join and do not forget the old fashion way of listen for announcements on your favorite radio stations. Many stations have online websites where you may sign up to receive email notifications of upcoming shows.

Tickets for most concerts are in high demand. Most shows sell out in a couple of days and some sell out in minutes. So how do you get the best tickets?

If the artist or band has a fan club, consider joining it. Many fan clubs will hold presales and make tickets available to club members first. Even this is not a grantee of getting the best tickets and you still may not get any tickets. Most fan club presales have a set allotment of tickets for any show, generally less than 10% of the ticket.

Radio stations may also sponsor presales for the show. Once again you will need to sign up for information at the stations website. Just like the fan club presale there are only a limited number of tickets available.

Many theatres, venues and concert promoters also have special clubs you may join that give you the privilege of buying tickets before they go on sale to the general public. If you had no luck getting tickets in any of the previous ways there is always the general public sale. All remaining tickets, that have not been sold during any of the presales or given to radio stations for promotional purpose, will be sold during this sale. You can generally purchase ticket during this sale by one of three ways. You can buy tickets online, by telephone of at the box office or at a box office outlet. So what to do if after all of this you still have no tickets because the show sold out to fast or you missed the sale. Can you still get tickets? Yes, tickets are still possible. Ticket prices will generally be higher, due to the free market the holder of tickets may sell at any price they wish. This price is general determined by the popularity of the event, amount of tickets available and the demand of the tickets.

One of these ways is to visit websites like Stubhub that lets fans and season tickets holders sell their tickets. Be advised that Stubhub will add a service fee of 10% to the purchase price of the tickets.

Ebay also has a great deal of tickets being offered for sale. Once again these tickets are being sold by individuals who may ask any price the wish. Most tickets sold on Ebay are sold buy auction, where the price is determined by the highest bidder.

You may also check your local newspaper or online classified sites. Many of these have sections where tickets maybe sold.

Probably the best and most reliable source for tickets besides the box office is TICKET BROKERS.
