Kings of Leon

Kings of Leon is an alternative rock band from Nashville, Tennessee formed in 1999 by the brothers Caleb Followill, Jared Followill and Nathan Followill with their cousin Matthew Followill. The band got its name from the fact that both their father and grandfather went by the name 'Leon'. The band's early music was an upbeat blend of southern rock and garage rock influences. Since the band's debut in 2003, they have grown from an indie act to achieve international stardom, particularly in Ireland, the United Kingdom, and Australia. After the release of their 2008 album Only by the Night the band also experienced a growth in popularity in both the United States and Canada. As of 2009, Kings of Leon have had nine Top 40 singles in the United Kingdom, including a number-one with the hit single "Sex on Fire". On July 22nd, 2009, it was revealed that the band's latest album, Only By The Night, was just certified platinum in the United States.
